Jürgen Klopp the Next Man Utd Manager?
Despite being handed a six-year contract to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson, there is rampant speculation that David Moyes will be replaced at the end of the season. The identity of the next Man Utd Manager is now a more intriguing prospect than whether or not Moyes will survive the summer on Fergie’s throne. High-calibre managerial prospects like Jürgen Klopp and Louis van Gaal have been identified within the media, but will the Glazers actually end the beleaguered tenure of Moyes?
Not The Next Man Utd Manager
Louis van Gaal simply isn’t the best suitor for Manchester United. The Dutch veteran is 62 years old and approaching the end of his career. He would be little more than a stopgap for a club crying out for a new identity to carry them through the coming seasons. Plus, van Gaal hasn’t truly excelled since guiding Ajax to success in the 1990s. Winning league titles with glittering European sides like Barcelona and Bayern Munich and missing out on European Cups won’t be enough for this task. Tottenham and their revolving-door policy on football managers will be the ideal situation for van Gaal.
Remarkable Feats from Klopp
Jürgen Klopp is 16 years younger than van Gaal and has a long career ahead of him. The enigmatic German has worked wonders with Borussia Dortmund, inspiring them to a pair of Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final. These feats are remarkable when you consider that the Bundesliga is akin to the Scottish Premier League, where a single team dominates all others. Jürgen Klopp would be able to carve out a new identity for Manchester United and acquire hidden gems to revitalise a lacklustre midfield.
The Superior Candidate
Already, it should be obvious that Klopp is the superior candidate. He didn’t even need a team of Bayern Munich’s calibre to win more Bundesliga titles than the aged van Gaal. In spite of Bayern poaching Dortmund stars Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski, Klopp has kept the club competitive by inspiring impressive performances from the likes of Marco Reus and İlkay Gündoğan. Just imagine what Klopp could do for a club with United’s financial power. Shrewd purchases and talent would at last become a reality for the Red Devils.
Will David Moyes be Sacked?
In all likelihood, the David Moyes experiment will continue into the next season. Fergie will continue to buy more time for his Scottish compadre, pulling strings behind the scenes at Old Trafford. Ferige’s judgement and integrity will take a colossal hit if Moyes doesn’t live up to the success he was so certain of. Also, the six-year contract will tie the Glazers to Moyes for at least another season. The only certainty is that another season outside of the Champions League will truly end the reign of David Moyes.
